The 2024 Annual Conference of the Linguistic Society of New Zealand will be hosted by the University of Canterbury in Christchurch from December 9-10, with a post-conference workshop on December 11.
The conference will be an in-person event. The post-conference workshop is aimed primarily at postgraduate students and early career researchers and will focus on the use of LaBB-CAT, statistical analysis in R, and open science practices.
Note that there is no possibility of registering at the conference venue.

Conference presenters
ALL presenters will be required to have their presentation loaded onto a pen drive before the conference begins. All presenters should test their talk in the final 15 minutes of the break BEFORE their session starts. The Chair will be in the room to assist you.
Abstracts
Abstracts are invited for oral paper presentations focusing on any area of Linguistics. Abstracts and full paper presentations are welcome in either English or te reo Māori. Talks will be 20-minutes long plus 10 minutes for discussion.
Abstracts should be no longer than two pages. The first page should contain the title and text of the abstract in under 400 words. The second page is optional and can be used for additional information such as plots, tables, example stimuli, references etc. Abstracts should be fully anonymized and in pdf form.

Membership
You must be a member of New Zealand Linguistic Society (normal membership or student) to present at the conference. Please ensure that your membership is active – you can register or renew your membership here. This does not apply to the post-conference workshop.
Scholarships
NZLS will provide up to five travel scholarships for students flying to Christchurch to present their work. Students can indicate on the abstract submission form if they wish to be considered.

Accommodation
Most motels close to UC are on Riccarton Road and are a 10-15 minute walk to campus. There are good bus connection from downtown with UC if you prefer to stay in the city.
