Call for papers

The 2026 Annual Conference of the Linguistic Society of New Zealand will be hosted by Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington at the Kelburn campus on 7-8 December 2026, followed by a workshop day on 9 December.

Plenary talks will be given by Associate Professor Lynn Clark (Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha – University of Canterbury) and Associate Professor Awanui Te Huia (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāi Tūhoe; Kairangahau matua, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa; Adjunct, Te Herenga Waka). There will also be a workshop facilitated by Associate Professor Amanda Huensch (University of Pittsburgh) on 9 December.

The conference aims to provide a forum for the discussion of all linguistic research in Aotearoa-New Zealand. We welcome abstracts for presentations addressing any topic in linguistics.

Linguistics students at New Zealand universities are especially encouraged to submit. The Society will offer grants to cover one-way flights for students presenting a paper who do not have funding (subject to available funds). Please indicate whether you wish to be considered for this grant when you submit your abstract.

To become a presenter at this year’s conference, you also need to be a member of the society. Follow the link to join the society.

Submission Guidelines

Abstracts should be a maximum of 300 words (not including references). You can include an additional page for references, figures or examples. Please also include 3 to 5 keywords to help us identify suitable reviewers for your abstract.

Abstract deadline: 24 July 2026
Notification: 24 August 2026
